Every once in a while, I’ll read a book for Chapter 16 that turns me on to a new author, and in this case, that author is Erica Waters. Her YA horror novel The Restless Dark had me hooked once I saw the cover, and it only got better from there. Her other novels are on my TBR list, and I hope to get around to Ghost Wood Song very soon.
The Restless Dark is a wonderful combo of hyper-sensationalized podcasts and terrifying murder in the woods. In the review, I write, “In the rough mountain wilderness of Cloudkiss Canyon, die-hard fans of the true-crime podcast ‘Human Beasties’ gather for a six-day Killer Quest to find the elusive bones of the famous Cloudkiss Killer, Joseph Kincaid. Among the participants is Lucy, our primary narrator and the girl who would have been the Cloudkiss Killer’s final victim. She’s back to find his bones in the hopes of releasing the hold his memory still has over her.”
