[12] Chapter 16 Review Syndicate: Needlework

Occasionally, when an author has another event coming up and their book was reviewed by Chapter 16, the site will re-highlight the review to give the author further publicity. So, this week features my review of Julia Watts’s YA novel Needlework, which I originally reviewed in Feb. 2022 but was featured again in Sept. 2022. You can tell how bad I’ve been about highlighting these in the past, since 2022 feels so far away now that we are well on our way into 2024. Keep an eye out though for another syndicate for a second novel from Watts that I also reviewed for Chapter 16.

I love Watts’s work for its much-needed queer representation in the south. As I write in the review, “Kody, a student at Morgan County High School in rural Kentucky, spends most evenings sewing and watching The Golden Girls with Nanny. During the hours he has alone in the house before Nanny gets home from work, Kody plays ‘Dolly Dress-Up Hour,’ where he applies makeup, dons a blond wig and a silk kimono robe, and lip synchs to a Dolly Parton album.”
